We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Benefits Auditor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing both union and non-union employee benefit plans, ensuring compliance with company policies, collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), government regulations, and industry best practices. You will play a critical role in maintaining accurate benefits records, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring employees receive the correct benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Comprehensive Audits: Review benefit plans (health, welfare, retirement, pension, FMLA, paid time off, etc.) to ensure compliance with CBAs, company policies, and regulations.
  • Verify Records: Verify employee eligibility, payroll deductions, contributions, and benefit disbursements for both union and non-union employees.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to local/national union agreements, and other federal and state regulations.
  • Reconcile Discrepancies: Identify and resolve overpayments, underpayments, eligibility errors, or potentially fraudulent activities.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with HR, Payroll, and union trust funds to address discrepancies and improve processes.
  • Trend Analysis: Analyze patterns in benefit usage, cost drivers, and potential risks within the benefits program.
  • Audit Reporting: Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, financial implications, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • External Audits and Filings: Assist with regulatory filings, coordinate yearly union audits, and support external audit processes.
  • Process Improvements: Identify areas for improvement and implement best practices for benefit administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience auditing or administering employee benefits, with experience in unionized environments, preferably in the petrochemical or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements, multi-employer benefit plan rules, and union trust fund administration.
  • Experience with Vista, payroll systems, and benefits administration platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for working with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Certification such as CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) is a plus.
